Kells Road Races crown first female champion!

Thousands of motorcyclists and bike enthusiasts turned out for this year's Kells Road Races in Ireland's historic County Meath, where the event added to its own history books by crowning its first female winner.

The show kicked off on Friday June 20th with the Charity Classic Bike Run in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland. It was followed by two days of blistering racing, witnessed by around 4,500 spectators from across Ireland, the UK and further afield, enticed by the opportunity to see some adrenaline-pumping action and contribute to a fantastic cause.

Highlights of Kells Road Races 2015

This year's event began poignantly with the charity bike run, held in honour of Down Syndrome Ireland's fundraising coordinator Aidan Lynam. The father-of-three died tragically this May while taking part in the Rev-Up4DSI charity motorcycle event he helped found ten years ago.

Practice races got underway the next day, with around 140 motorcyclists taking part, including well-known names like William Dunlop - Tyco BMW rider and nephew of legendary TT racer Joey Dunlop, and Irish Supersport Road Race Champion Derek McGee.

On Sunday, the main races took place, with Dunlop coming out top in the Supersport 600cc and Kevin Fitzpatrick taking first place in the Support 401-750cc event. Alan Bonner raced to the top spot in both Superbike races, becoming the first club member to win the Carole Nash Grand Final.

Another first was achieved by Veronika Hankocyova, who took the title in the Supertwins 650cc. The Czech racer is the only woman to win at Kells Road to date and the first female rider to have taken top position in an Irish National meeting in over 20 years.

As title sponsors, the Carole Nash team were on hand throughout the event, dishing out insurance quotes, goodie bags and balloons for the kids. We also contributed a charitable donation to Down Syndrome Ireland and held a raffle that won one lucky biker €100 off their motorcycle insurance.

Our Place Your Bets offer was another big hit, with bikers lining up to beat their bike insurance renewal quotes or receive €10 absolutely free! There were also hundreds of entries into our free prize draw to win a whopping €250 off your motorcycle insurance.

If you missed out on this great family event, there's always next year – so start planning now for a superb day out in 2016!
