Inside Bikes

Got a question
Durham BikeWise 2017

An estimated 8,000 bike fanatics packed into Durham Police HQ in late July to soak up the atmosphere at Durham BikeWise 2017. And they weren’t disappointed!

With heaps of entertainment and an abundance of bikes, this was the perfect family day out. The White Helmets were one of the biggest attractions, wowing the crowds with a range of fantastic displays that were as skilful as they were brave.

They weren’t the only ones to show off their skills, though. Darlington-based world record holder Dave Coates (he holds the world record for riding backwards on a motorbike - at a speed of 151.7 mph) turned up to perform at his 22nd consecutive BikeWise, and even the police dogs got in on the action with a display of their own!

Fun for all the family at Durham BikeWise 2017

This was the 23rd Durham BikeWise event and it will certainly live long in the memory for the visitors who made the trip.

Youngsters were left spellbound by an appearance from the air support police helicopter. The Mini Bike Club was also a big hit, giving children of all ages the chance to safely ride mini bikes.

There were plenty of attractions for older visitors, too – including lines of glistening displays from some of the world’s most famous motorcycle manufacturers, and a special appearance from TT legend John McGuinness.

Educational sessions from the fire and rescue services generated interest among riders looking to keep themselves safe. And a range of good causes managed to raise significant funds thanks to the generous nature and goodwill of visitors keen to help out some of their favourite charities.

A party atmosphere

Throughout the day, riders from across the country gathered to share stories from their own motorcycle clubs, while a combination of good food, drink and live music helped make sure the day went with a bang – wherever you were from.

As ever, the Carole Nash team was also in the thick of the action. Our tent proved endlessly popular, as we handed out branded goodie bags and chatted all things bike to anyone who could spare the time. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!
