Go full throttle at Faugheen 50 Road Races 2017

Hundreds of bikers will be revving their engines and riding down to the south-east of Ireland this July for the action-packed, adrenaline-pumping Faugheen 50 Road Races 2017. Taking place over July 22nd and 23rd in Carrick on suir, County Tipperary, the road racing event attracts thousands of spectators annually, all watching with bated breath as dozens of daring bikers battle it out on the tarmac.

An unmissable fixture in the local motorcycling calendar, Faugheen 50 draws competitors from all over Ireland – and beyond, with many challengers travelling in from abroad to take part. It’s just as exciting for the crowds, too, with families from all around flocking to the village to get close to the racing action and enjoy all that’s on offer over the weekend.

Rip-roaring road racing

If road racing is what gets you fired up you won’t want to miss out on the whopping 11 races pencilled in for the weekend, with practice sessions taking place on Saturday ahead of the main race day on Sunday. Show organisers are advising visitors to arrive in good time – the roads in and around the village will be closing at 11am on both days, so give yourself at least an hour beforehand to park up and pick out the perfect vantage point.

Contenders will pit their skills against the road – and one another – as they race around the triangular route that leads out of and back into the village. Just over two miles in length, the route takes riders towards Creamery Corner, down Ballinurra towards Carrick Corner, along Newton Lower and back up to Church Corner.

Competitors are yet to be announced but anticipated entrants include some famous names, such as Irish Superbike champions Derek Sheils and Brian McCormack, Supersport championship winner Derek McGee and two-times Junior Manx GP winner Michael Sweeney, along with racers Andy Farrell and Sean Connolly.

Fantastic family fun at the Faugheen 50!

Bring the whole family down to Faugheen for a full weekend of fun in the sun (fingers crossed). Watch the racing action and the prize presentations – including the coveted Man of the Meeting trophy, awarded to the best rider on the day – admire the mighty machines on display and meet the contenders over in the paddock.

The event is sponsored by lots of local businesses, so spend some time browsing the stalls and show your support for local traders. Feeling peckish? Make a pitstop at one of the many food and drink stalls – perfect for when it’s time to refuel.
