Ace Cafe Margate Meltdown 2016

Blown away by the Ace Cafe Margate Meltdown!

There’s nothing like sea air to clear away the cobwebs and we were blown away all right at the Ace Cafe Margate Meltdown on the May bank holiday Monday!

A combination of the blowy sea breeze, rocking beats and revving engines really put the wind in our sails at the ninth instalment of the ever-popular Margate Meltdown in Kent.

Seaside soundtracks

Despite the overcast skies and windy weather, bikes lined the seafront as far as the eye could see as riders rolled up for an action-packed day of motorcycles, mingling and music.

Bikers turned out and tuned in to live music from Lew Lewis and The Twilight Trio and rockin’ beats provided by DJs Bill and George Guntrip, who kept the atmosphere pumping with everything from holiday classics to heavy rock as the crowds compared machines and browsed the stalls for the latest and greatest biking gear.

A fantastic, free day for the whole family, there was plenty to keep everyone busy – even the youngest bike-mad attendants!

A blast from the past

There were bikes to admire from throughout the ages in a number of displays, with a special focus on the legacy left by the 1960s, when Margate was a haven for warring Mods and Rockers.

The beach battles between the two groups have long since faded into memory but the vintage machines have now become classic head-turners, and they certainly stole the show on the day!

Aside from the bikes, dozens of stalls drew attention from the crowds, with visitors keen to pick up gadgets and accessories from the big brands, smaller retailers and local bike clubs alike.

A winning team

Over in the Carole Nash tent the Carole Nash Crew did us proud, posing for pics, brightening up the grey day and letting everyone know about our great giveaway – with one lucky visitor walking away with a Go Pro helmet camera package in our free prize draw.

What’s more, dozens of visitors experienced the thrill of whizzing around Donington GP Circuit in the virtual saddle of a Ron Haslam Honda superbike by downloading our fantastic insidebikes app powered by Carole Nash – why not give it a try yourself?
