Glorious bikes, glorious weather – the perfect conditions for the bike1066 Spring Opener 2018!

Hastings seafront hasn’t had many better weekends in its history than the three fantastic days over the May Bank Holiday weekend that hosted the 2018 bike1066 Spring Opener!

For 72 wonderful hours, the sun shone, the engines purred and the laughter never stopped at one of Britain’s largest free-to-attend motorcycle festivals.

Celebrating four decades of biking friendship

For more than 40 years, East Sussex has been home to the annual bike1066 Spring Opener – and it continues to get bigger with every passing year.

This time, more than 40,000 bikers descended on the south coast, packing out the town centre, the main car park and everywhere else in between!

With live music helping to build up a sensational atmosphere and rows upon rows of stalls, autojumble stands and display bikes attracting shoppers eager to gather their latest must-have accessories, it was a blissful biking heaven.

Riding out in style

Back in 1979, naval engineer Tim Gooderson led a cavalcade of just over 200 other bikers as they rode out from Locksbottom, Kent, to the inaugural bike1066 Spring Opener.

This year, the route was packed with riders and motorbikes young and old. And each and every one of those involved felt the history of this famous biking tradition as they completed one of the UK’s most popular and well-known motorcycle routes.

When they finally arrived in Hastings, they were greeted with mouth-watering food and drink stalls, so they could quench their thirst on England’s sun-kissed south coast and kick back at one of the best events on the biking calendar.

And down at the Carole Nash stand, we were busier than ever. We dished out goodie bags galore, chatted with bikers from every corner of the UK and hosted our spectacular free prize draw.

If next year is even half as good, we can’t wait to see you there!
