Triumph to reveal new Daytona 765 at 2019 British Grand Prix
Having relented to public interest, Triumph is set to launch a Daytona 765 and the new machine, of which just 1530 will be built, will be shown at this month’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Having supplied a tuned version of its 765cc Street Triple engine as the control powerplant for the Moto2 world championship since the start of the year, it was almost inevitable that the British manufacturer would slot one into their Daytona 675 chassis and make it available for sale to us mere mortals to ride on the road.
And so it is that the Daytona 765 will come into being. Officially titled the Triumph Daytona Moto2 765 Edition, Triumph will be building 1530 (which is two lots of 765, geddit?). It’s officially licenced by MotoGP bosses Dorna and claims to have the highest ever power and torque from the three-cylinder Street Triple engine, as well as having more rider aids and a higher spec than any Triumph to have gone before it.
Details of the new model are a bit thin on the ground, for example we don’t know when it will go on sale, how much it will cost or how much power it will actually make, however Triumph are claiming that the Daytona 765 will be the closest thing you can buy to factory Moto2 bike. We’re expecting the main frame to be a slightly modified version of the one used on the Daytona 675, a model which was quietly dropped from the range a few years ago, but it’s likely to be dripping with high end components and sporting a monochrome Union Jack paint scheme inspired by the Moto2 testing mule.
With the original Daytona 675 already into modern classic territory in the minds of many riders, the Daytona 765 is likely to attract a huge amount of interest from sportsbike riders and fans of the Triumph marque.
Want to be the first to see it? TT champion Peter Hickman will be giving the new model a demonstration at the upcoming British MotoGP round, which takes place at Silverstone on the weekend of 23-25 August.
