The world of classic cars is diverse, ranging from a stylish Mini, to a sleek Aston Martin. But some classic vehicles aren’t as well known, such as the Studebaker Lark. These models might not be as popular as other cars, yet they are still impressive in their own right. Here are six overlooked classic cars.
Sunbeam Tiger
The Sunbeam Tiger caught the eye of automotive manufacturer Carroll Shelby who fitted it with a Ford V8 engine. However, Jensen Motors got the contract to produce the car. The Mark 1 was produced between 1964 and 1967, selling over 6000 units. The Tiger features a long bonnet, wide grille and magnificent body, making it a worthwhile vehicle for any classic car enthusiast.
Ferrari Dino 308 GT4
In an effort to offer an affordable car to the general public, Ferrari introduced the Dino 308 GT4 in 1973. The car featured plush seats and a V8 engine with a horsepower of 250. The Dino logo was in honour of Enzo Ferrari’s son who died in 1956. In 1976, the Dino badge was dropped and replaced with the official logo to try and improve sales.
Studebaker Lark
Introduced in 1959, the Studebaker Lark was designed to be different than cars manufactured by brands like General Motors, Ford and Chrysler. The car featured a simple grille and minimalistic body shape. Despite never being as successful as the American ‘Big Three’ the Lark remains an attractive car.
Volkswagen Scirocco
Although the Beetle is arguably VW’s most popular car, the Scirocco is deserving of attention. The original model was launched in 1974 and replaced the Karmann Ghia coupe. With crisp lines and dependable mechanics, the Scirocco is a worth driving.
Chevrolet Kingswood
The Chevrolet Kingswood was an impressive station wagon that featured a sleek body and optional wooden exterior panels. The 1969 version had a V8 engine, making it a powerful car that shouldn’t be overlooked.
Mercury Cougar
The Ford Mustang may be considered one of the most popular classic cars of all time, but its Mercury twin is no slouch either. Introduced in 1967, the Mercury Cougar was intended to be a more upscale version of the Mustang. To separate the Mercury from the Mustang there was a greater emphasis on luxury. The car came with a V8 engine, leather bucket seats and retractable headlights.
