If you’re looking for expert advice on how to unlock the full potential of your classic car, then Fuzz is here to help. He’s involved in a 9-part series that shows him giving tips on how to manage classic cars. In this video, Fuzz talks about the best way to change a wheel safely.
He starts off by saying that if your tyre is damaged then you should find a safe place to change it. Fuzz advises against anywhere dangerous like the hard shoulder and suggests changing the tyre at a layby. Most importantly, Fuzz says that you should change the tyre on a flat surface.
Sometimes, you might have to change a tyre on a slope, and Fuzz demonstrates how to go about it in the video. To stop your car from rolling backwards, Fuzz recommends putting a wooden plank underneath the rear wheel. When the car is stationary, you can make a start on examining the tyre.
Next, Fuzz says you should secure a scissor jack and axle stand underneath the car. The jack is used to lift the vehicle up while the stand takes the place of the tyre that needs changing. After the car has been jacked up, Fuzz removes the wheel nuts so the tyre can be replaced.
Once you have the spare tyre, Fuzz advises that you should take note of the position of the stud. When you’ve located it, you’ll be able to attach the tyre easily. Fitting the nuts back in will cause the tyre to spin, so you should use a torque wrench to secure them. Fuzz goes on to say that there’s no harm in taking your car to a tyre shop to make sure the tyre has been secured properly.
