One of the most important parts of owning a motorbike is making sure it’s insured. While a getting a quote and taking a policy out might seem straight-forward, renewing a policy comes with a range of factors that should be taken into consideration, such as using a No Claims Bonus (NCB). At Carole Nash, we’re determined to make renewing your motorbike insurance policy as easy as possible, so we’ve come up with a guide.

When will I be notified of my renewal?

You’ll receive a renewal invite containing details on the premium at least 21 days before the renewal date. As the Ogden/discount rate changed from 0% to 1% in 2017, it’s worth noting that your insurance premium may have increased. The premium will also have increased if you’ve made a claim or a criminal conviction has been added.

If this is the case for your policy then it will be included in the renewal information. Once you’ve received the invite, be sure to check that all the details are correct, such as motorbike history, mileage, value etc. If anything has changed then you’ll need to update your personal details accordingly.

A No Claims Bonus may help to reduce your premium. The discount can continue to grow each year until a claim is made. Providing the insurance remains in force a maximum discount can be reached. It’s also worth remembering that a No Claims Bonus is valid for two years after the expiry of your insurance policy. If you insure your motorbike within the time frame you can use your NCB to get a discount.

The majority of our policies are auto renewed to save our customers time and effort. The exception is when details have changed, and if that’s the case you’ll need to call us. This will be clearly noted on the invite.

What happens if I don’t want to renew my policy?

Providing you don’t want to automatically renew your policy then it’s imperative you contact us up to 7 days before the renewal date. If we don’t hear from you then we’ll take it as confirmation to process the renewal, setting up the policy offered on your behalf.

If we’ve confirmed your policy won’t be auto-renewed then cover will stop on the renewal date, unless you’ve contacted us beforehand to make a payment.

Renewing your motorbike insurance policy doesn’t have to be complicated and our staff are on hand to help you through the process if you have any questions. We have policies for motorcyclists of all kinds, whether you own a commuter bike or off-road vehicle.
