The bank holiday weekend saw what will surely be one of the best times of the year for many a British motorcycle fan – the MotoGP returned to British soil to test the championship challengers on the legendary Silverstone circuit.
The hallowed ground of Silverstone always provides a fast and furious competition, but this year's MotoGP race saw even fiercer rivalries. Tied for first place on 211 points apiece as they hit the starting grid, Movistar Yamaha teammates Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo were both hoping to pull ahead as personal glory outshone team spirit!
Despite wet conditions, Rossi roared out of the gate, closely followed by reigning champion and title hopeful Marc Marquez. Lorenzo struggled to keep up with the duelling pair, but Marquez couldn't stand the heat, crashing out at Copse Corner while challenging for the lead in lap 13.
Lorenzo failed to capitalise on the opportunity to take second, falling back and eventually ending up in fourth behind previous outsiders Danilo Petrucci for Octo Pramac Racinf, and Andrea Dovizioso for Ducati team. Both have had respectable seasons thus far, but had been resting in sixth and tenth respectively – their podium spots push them comfortably up the table.

Now 77 points away from reclaiming his title, things aren't looking good for Marquez, but the battle for supremacy between Rossi and Lorenzo is sure to rage on as the season heads to Italy and the Misano World Circuit for the next round on Septermber 13th.
