Got a question

Motorcycle World at Beaulieu, one of the biggest regional shows to take place in the South of England has been cancelled for 2009.

The show started over a decade ago, and rapidly grew to become a successful combination of new machines, classics, arena action, demo rides, off-road try-outs and a trade stall area. At its peak Motorcycle World drew some 25,000-30,000 visitors over its July weekend.

Supported initially by Biker magazine, it attracted headline sponsorship from Carole Nash Insurance and TWO magazine in recent years, with BMW, Harley-Davidson, Suzuki and other manufacturers all taking stand space at Motorcycle World.

Margaret Rowles from Motorcycle World told the bike press that the rising cost of meeting health and safety rules, plus a downturn in trade support mean the event wasn’t viable for 2009. The bad weather which reduced attendance in both 2007 and 2008 didn’t help, with heavy rain causing much of the arena action to be cancelled.

Beaulieu continues to host the Graham Walker memorial run (Graham was Murray Walker’s Dad and former editor of the Green `Un) and the 2009 event will probably see an expansion of classic bike club stands.
