For riders who love a bit more a of a laidback vibe from their roadster, BMW’s R 1250 R has always been an incredibly capable machine, offering up an impressive mix of comfort, usability and a decent amount of performance too. And for 2023, BMW have gone down the route of evolution rather than revolution, with some nice updates to the naked boxer-powered machine.
Although often overshadowed by the ubiquitous GS adventure bike and even the RT tourer in the BMW boxer range, the naked R has always enjoyed a small but passionate following from riders looking for no-nonsense ‘standard’ motorcycle.
Although the main components of the R 1250 R remain the same, in terms of its chassis and Shiftcam-equipped boxer engine, it will see some modifications for 2023, starting with the appearance. It gains a redesigned front and rear section, alongside a new LED headlight and LED indicator set too. It also gains an electronics boost, with a new ECO riding mode added alongside ABS Pro and Dynamic Traction Control. These all come as standard, alongside two different USB charging sockets. You also have the option of adding on the Pro riding modes for additional adjustability, as well as a heated seat.
The R 1250 R will come in at £12,330, while the pimped up R 1250 SE with electronic suspension will cost £14,850. Both models will available in dealers from February 2023.
