Ducati has teamed up with supercar manufacturer Lamborghini to create a limited run special edition of the Diavel power cruiser, inspired by the ultra-exclusive 218mph Siàn FKP 37 hypercar.
Lamborghini is only making 63 examples of the $2m, 819bhp, hybrid car and has taken deposits on the full production run. At £27,795, the matching bike is a positive bargain. Ducati says that it will produce 630 examples of the carbon fibre clad machine, and there’s a good chance many will be snapped up by collectors and stored away as long term investments.
Ducati and Lamborghini’s styling teams have collaborated in the project, with the bike taking the standard 1260 and adding a number of high end components and styling elements lifted straight from the supercar. The motorbike uses the same ‘Gea Green’ paint as the car, while the frame and forged rims are the same gold as the supercar’s wheels. Only the dash of red paint on the Brembo M50 brake calipers hint at the 1260’s Ducati bloodline.
Mechanically the Lamborghini edition is unchanged from the standard version, with the 1262cc V-twin motor pumping out a more than healthy 162bhp, but the limited edition is all about the bodywork and detailing.
The forged wheels use a new design, unique to the Lamborghini edition, as well as a reshaped exhaust and seat stitching inspired by the four-wheeler. The bike also features extensive use of carbon fibre, with all the bodywork: fuel tank cover, mudguards, dashboard cover and dashboard cover are all made from the Formula One developed composite. As is the tradition for limited edition bikes each machine will have a numbered plaque on the frame, while a matching helmet, designed by Centro Stile Ducati, is also available as an option.
"In creating a Diavel inspired by the Siàn, we are celebrating the values we share with Lamborghini: we are Italian, we are sporty, and design is a distinctive element for our creations," says Andrea Ferraresi, Director of the Centro Stile Ducati. "The Diavel 1260 Lamborghini was designed using the same stylistic language that distinguishes the super sports car, so we have redesigned the elements that most characterize the Diavel. For example, the rims, which are a fundamental component for a motorcycle like this, are forged and immediately bring the bike close to the car. The entire bodywork was made of carbon fibre, a precious and light material. The result is a bike with a great stage presence, a true collector's item from the point of view of style and a 100% Diavel in riding."
"We are convinced that our design is strong and one of the most recognizable in the automotive sector," added Mitja Borkert, Head of Design of Automobili Lamborghini. "The unique silhouette, clean but extremely distinguished, defines the base of our design language. Our visionary design approach allows us to transfer our DNA to other products: this was achieved through strong teamwork, sharing our style and the advantage of being two brands inspired by the same values and a commitment to ‘fun to drive'."
Some of the key features of the Diavel 1260 Lamborghini are the traditional power cruiser riding position and ergonomics of the Diavel model, along with the exposed tubular steel trellis frame and wide 240mm wide rear tyre. With its forged wheels and carbon fibre components, the Diavel 1260 Lamborghini has a dry weight of 220 kg, 3kg less than the standard model.
Along with the rest of the 2021 Diavel range, the Diavel 1260 Lamborghini is compliant with the latest Euro5 regulations. The limited edition will be available towards the end of December 2020, while the more humble models, which start at £16,995, are in showrooms now.
