Ducati claim that their new Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is the sportiest Multistrada ever. And looking at the specs, they aren’t lying.
They may not run motorcycles at Pikes Peak anymore, but I’m glad that didn’t stop Ducati making its fifth iteration of the utterly bonkers take on their Multistrada – this time, giving the Gucci treatment to the Multistrada V4 platform. And what a platform that is to start with.
Unlike many special editions it’s not just a standard V4 with a paint job, as Ducati really have gone to town. For starters, the Pikes Peak’s geometry is different to the standard model for a sportier, more aggressive stance, thanks to an alteration of the steering head angle, alongside a tweaking of the trail and wheelbase too.
This should make the Pikes Peak feel more focused compared to the standard model, and when combined with the 4kg weight saving, thanks to a host of changes that include a set of new forged-aluminium Marchesini rims, it really does sound like a treat.
In order to make the most of these changes, Ducati have given the V4 Pikes Peak a new ‘Race Riding’ mode (the first time on a Multistrada), while suspension is taken care of by the latest Ohlins EC 2.0 suspension and braking power is handled by Brembo’s range-topping Stylema monobloc calipers, with 330mm discs.
It’s then been absolutely covered in carbon goodies, alongside the smaller screen, anodised fork legs, two-tone seat unit and given a livery that is inspired by the ’21 Ducati MotoGP machines, even getting number plates on both sides of the fuel tank. There’s no word on a price just yet, but it will be in dealers from December 2021.
