Todd on top as TT’24 comes to a conclusion

CN Todd

BMW rider Davey Todd took honours in the prestigious Senior Isle of Man TT, elevating him to one of the event’s biggest stars.

Now racing for the Milwaukee BMW squad, the 29-year-old Teessider had a breakthrough TT campaign, winning his first TT in the earlier superstock event before triumphing in the showcase Senior race after a battle with defending champion Peter Hickman.

Hickman, riding another BMW M 1000 RR, held a small advantage and was on lap record pace when he crashed out uninjured at Ginger Hall on lap two. With Michael Dunlop out with a clutch problem and Dean Harrison unable to show his best pace after making some set-up changes, Todd was able to control the race and take the win from two-time British superbike champion Josh Brookes, who also had a breakthrough campaign, with Harrison a distant third.

The 2024 TT had opened up with Dunlop matching his uncle Joey’s record of 26 wins with an emphatic victory in the Supersport TT, before the Crowe brothers Callum and Ryan took their first win in the sidecar category. Sunday saw a dramatic Superbike TT go the way of Hickman, following some pitstop dramas for Dunlop and Todd, but after a fine first weekend unsettled weather led to a disrupted race week and a packed final day which saw the second Supersport and Supertwin TTs run, with a shortened Senior TT running into the early evening.

Dunlop took success in all of the supersport and supertwin races, moving himself onto 29 career wins, while the Crowes did the double in both of their races.

CN Crowe

While the weather meant the 2024 festival never quite found its rhythm, it was a memorable week for all the right reasons, with Dunlop entering the record books in fine style and Todd and the Crowe brothers marking their arrival as the next generation of TT stars.
