Triumph is introducing a range of fully-electric motorcycles, with a line-up of electric off-roaders which are largely aimed at kids.
The new models are the first fruits of the Leicestershire company’s collaboration with OSET motorcycles, the south coast based company famed for its electric trials bikes, and which was acquired by Triumph over three years ago.
Building upon OSET’s well-proven technology, the four-bike Triumph TXP range offers something for kids as young as three, with prices starting at £1,595.
The base TXP-12 is designed for children up to five years old and has a modular design with two seat heights, which mean it can be ridden seated or like a trials bike. Fitted with a 600w motor, Triumph reckons it will deliver up to three hours of riding, and a two hour charge time. Parents can control the power delivery and speed, up to a maximum of 14mph, through a PIN protected keypad.
Kids aged seven to 10 are catered for by the TXP-20, which has a more powerful 1600w motor and a bigger, 20Ah, lithium battery, combining to offer a longer range and a 22mph top speed. The £3195 machine can also be configured as a low seat trials bike, or a taller enduro style off-roader, but is understandably bigger and heavier all round, with higher specced components, to allow for the performance and the rider’s extra height and weight.
Topping Triumph’s TXP range is the £3695 TXP-24, which the company says is suited to riders over 10 and can even accommodate adults up to 90kg. Using the same spec motor as the TXP-20, with a 28Ah battery, it promises a 24mph top speed in a physically bigger package which weighs 48kg. All the bikes are branded as Triumphs and feature the distinctive black and fluorescent yellow livery used on the company’s factory race bikes.

It feels like a smart move from Triumph, who have recently extended their range to offer pukka motocross and enduro machines for the first time. In a tough and aging market, offering products to get youngsters riding (and brand loyal) seems to make perfect sense. OSET already enjoyed an outstanding reputation in the kids’ market, and having the clout of Triumph’s name, R&D resource and international dealer network should only be a good thing.
The announcement also comes at a time when kids are starting to write their list so Santa, and Triumph have conveniently announced that initial orders will be in dealerships for Christmas.
