It’s important to remember that there are various types of bike insurance available, with each providing a different level of cover.

Motorbike insurance is not only essential to keep yourself and your bike protected on the roads, it’s also of course required by law. Getting a quote with Carole Nash quote for bike insurance with Carole Nash couldn’t be easier, simply give us a call on 0333 005 3355.

Three types of motorbike insurance

The three main types of motorbike insurance are; comprehensive cover; third party, fire and theft; and third part only. Here we break down each one:

Comprehensive cover

The highest level of bike insurance available is Comprehensive cover. It includes cover for you if you end up involved in an accident that was your fault. Paying out for damages to your motorbike. If anyone a ‘third party’ was involved in the accident, they will be covered as well, including any repairs to their vehicle. You’ll also be covered for fire and theft damage too.

You can add Personal Accident Insurance, which covers you in the event of specified serious injuries or death, with up to £21,000 worth of cover for accidental bodily injury following a motorcycle accident.

When you get comprehensive insurance through Carole Nash, legal and breakdown cover comes as part of the package.

Third Party, Fire and Theft

Third Party, Fire and Theft will only cover the ‘third party’ in the event of an accident, as the name suggests. It won’t cover you if you have an accident that was your fault, but will cover damage to a third party caused by you. However, you will be covered if your motorbike is damaged by fire, or if it’s stolen.

Third Party Only

This type of motorbike insurance offers the minimum level of cover, and will only insure the cos of any damage or injury to another person or their vehicle. You and your motorbike won’t be covered if you have an accident.

Social, Domestic, Pleasure and Commuting

The type of motorbike insurance you require will also depend on how you actually use your bike. So you’ll need to inform your insurer if you use it just for taking journeys for leisure purposes, to go shopping or visit family and friends. Or whether you travel to and from a permanent workplace.

It’s best to ask our insurer what they would classify as commuting use, because having the wrong type of insurance in place when you have an accident will void a claim.

Pillion and other additional cover options

If you intend to ride with a passenger and you’re the owner of the motorbike, then you’ll also need pillion cover on your insurance. Most types of bike insurance will require you to add this on.

Carole Nash also offers protection for your biking gear should you be involved in an accident. If your helmet, leathers and boots get damaged beyond economical repair, we’ll cover them up to the value of £1000 – for just £40.99.

If you needed to claim under your insurance and wanted to reclaim your excess payments, our optional excess protection can cover this, up to £500. All you would need to do is make a separate claim for your excess. You can add this cover onto your policy for just £36.99.
