V9 and V85 TT updated for Moto Guzzi’s centenary year

2021 moto guzzi

Classic Italian motorcycle manufacturer Moto Guzzi celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2021 and, hot on the heels of the announcement of a new V7, they are updating two of its models with new Euro5 compliant versions of its traditional across the frame V-twin engine.

As with the 2021 V7, both the quirky V85 TT adventure bike and the V9 cruisers get an updated 850cc, 65bhp version of the 90° transversely mounted motor. It remains a hugely traditional design, with air-cooling, shaft drive and just two valves per cylinder, operated by old fashioned pushrods.

It’s not all old tech though. The valvetrain may be traditional but the use of lightweight titanium for the inlet is not. The motor has been tuned to give more torque in the low and mid range, while the electronics package has been expanded to give five riding modes, with the addition of Sport and a new Custom setting, which can be modified by the rider.

The V85 TT and the higher-spec, touring focused, V85 TT Travel (which features a screen and luggage among its extras) get minor chassis and styling changes, including new spoked wheels which allow the fitment of tubeless tyres and save 1.5kg in unsprung weight.

Colours are also new, with three options: Nero Etna, Giallo Mojave and Rosso Uluru, also known as black, white/yellow or red/white, the latter two with red painted frames.

Bigger changes for V9 cruiser

The V9 range, the V9 Bobber and V9 Roamer, gets a more significant update for 2021.

The frame has been strengthened around the headstock area, which Guzzi says will increase stability and precision, while rubber mounted footpegs should lead to a more comfortable ride.

While the V9 Roamer fulfils the role of the traditional everyday cruiser, the Bobber has a more distinctive look with wide tyres and a more minimalist style.

The 2021 V9 Bobber gets a new saddle, aluminium side panels and a short front mudguard, as well as a new digital instrument cluster and a full LED lighting system that features a funky new front headlight with daytime running lights in the shape of the Mandello Eagle, Moto Guzzi’s famous logo. The V9 Roamer comes in glossy grey, while the Bobber comes in a matt black finish, with black painted engine.

As always, Moto Guzzi will be happy to supply a whole brochure full of accessories with which to customise your motorcycle, while a reduced power version will also be available for A2 licence holders.
