Antonio Banderas Confirmed To Play Ferruccio Lamborghini In New Classic Car Biopic

Perhaps the greatest rivalry in the history of the classic car industry was between Enzo Ferrari and Ferruccio Lamborghini. The two motor moguls competed with each other to develop the greatest vehicles in the world. The life of Ferrari is set to be depicted on the silver screen, with separate biopics featuring Hugh Jackman and Robert DeNiro as the Italian designer.

It’s also been revealed that a film about Lamborghini is going into production. Antonio Banderas has been cast as Ferruccio, while Alec Baldwin has been cast as Enzo. The film, backed by production company TaTaTu, will showcase the rivalry between the two Italians. Titled Lamborghini, the film is based on the biography Ferruccio Lamborghini: La storia ufficiale, written by Tonino Lamborghini.

The film is going to depict Lamborghini’s journey from his early days to the latter half of his career. He went from manufacturing tractors to designing military vehicles in WW2. Eventually, Lamborghini decided to develop his own cars, which set off a tense relationship with Ferrari. The rivalry began after Lamborghini gave Ferrari friendly advice about his car designs. Of course, Enzo didn’t take kindly to this and mocked Ferruccio’s tractors.

The project has been in development for a few years. Development began in 2015, with Ambi Media Group announcing it had optioned Lamborghini’s life rights. Michael Radford was announced as the director in 2017 and Bobby Moresco worked on a script. Due to scheduling issues, Radford stepped down and Moresco took over. It’s been reported that pre-production began on April 9th 2018. Moresco is shooting in Italy and across a wide range of global locations.

Although Lamborghini has yet to get an official release date, we’re confident it will be a respectful tribute to one of the most iconic men in car history.
