Over the years there’s been a number of memorable car programmes, such as Car SOS and Top Gear. UKTV recently commissioned a new car-buying series called Modern Wheels or Classic Steals. Set to air on Dave, the show is presented by Rebecca Jackson and Elo.
Each episode will feature a car buyer looking for advice on their ideal motor. The premise of the show pits the two presenters against each other. As a racing driver, Rebecca will try to convince a buyer to buy a modern car, while Elo will push classic cars. As the owner and founder of The London Motor Museum, Elo has plenty of experience in the classic car industry.
The vehicles to appear on the show are being kept under wraps for now. But there will be a range of modern classics, post-war motors and sporty supercars. Budgets are expected to vary between £6,000 to £100,000.
Elo commented by saying “classic cars were not built be classics. They were built as everyday cars…classic cars offer a passion for driving. A connectivity with the machine and the road. Modern cars have no passion.”
UKTV director of commissioning Richard Watsham and UKTV general manager Steve North are responsible for ordering Modern Wheels or Classic Steals. The production team are confident about the success of the show. UKTV senior commissioning editor Ian Coyle said “this is a simple, captivating format, produced by a team at Cactus, who really know entertainment and really know their cars.”
Dave channel director, Luke Hales also said “we are excited to bring this show to life on Dave. We know how much our viewers love motoring content and we are sure they will love Modern Wheels or Classic Steals too.”
The first season will feature 20 episodes that are broken down into 30 minutes each. Be sure to catch the first one on Monday 17th September at 8PM.
