Rare Porsche 356A To Be Auctioned At UK Concours In August

Porsche has a history of developing some incredible cars and a rare model is going to be auctioned at the Salon Prive that’s celebrating the 70th anniversary of the company. A Porsche 356A Carrera Speedster will be sold on Saturday 31st August at the Porsche Concours section of the Salon Prive at Blenheim Palace.

The 356 is an important number because it served as the first sports car that Porsche sold. One of only 152 built, the Carrera Speedster is even more rare because of it having right-hand drive. It’s the only example left in the UK, while there are only four right-hand drive 356s left in the world.

76,000 356s were constructed over 17 years. Built as a convertible, speedster and a coupe there were a variety of models to choose from. Over the years, the 356 was improved upon by using less Volkswagen parts. The other versions can be identified as 356 pre-A, 356 A, 356 B and 356 C. The car was so popular that when it was replaced by the 911, a lot of people thought there wouldn’t be any chance of the new car living up to the one that came before.

The auction car was restored in 2014, being returned to its original red colour. The Carrera Speedster has already won multiple awards in other countries. The rare motor will be one of 50 other cars to be displayed at the Porsche Concours. Each car will be competing to stand out from the other, though the Carrera Speedster is certainly one of the favourites.

Porsche’s 70th anniversary is a big deal and forms an important part of the Salon Prive. The event combines some of the most highly-sought after classic cars on the planet. Vehicles will be displayed on the cricket pitch in front of Blenheim Palace, adding to the prestigious atmosphere.
