Some Top Tips For Customising Your First Classic

customising-first-classic-car.jpg

You’re probably feeling on top of the world after passing your driving test, however that excitement can be short lived once you realise how difficult it can be to find your very first car.
With the hunt for a decent runaround being quite tricky, it’s not surprising that some new drivers actually opt for a nice old classic car to be their first set of wheels.

Of course, even if you do end up with an old vintage model, you may not be very keen on modifying it in any way, which is understandable. However, you don’t have to go too far with your modifications. You can simply stick to some small but effective custom upgrades, and still maintain your car’s stylish, cool and classic look.

The best thing about customising your classic car a little as that you can make it unique and personal to you, obviously without going overboard. If you get the modifications right, your little classic can have a custom look that really makes it stand out from the rest. So, here are some top tips for customising your first classic…

Revitalise Those Rims

You’re wheels should be the first thing you consider when looking at modifications for your classic car. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much your car’s looks can be enhanced with a nice set of Minilites or wire spoke rims for example. Keep in mind, that if you’re thinking of purchasing some new rims, then you’ll need to get a new set of tyres too. This can be a really good idea though, as some new rubber will help your classic car grip onto the road better.

Switch Out The Steering Wheel

Another modification option to your classic car will be to change its steering wheel. Now, we’re not saying that steering wheels in old classics don’t look good, because they do, especially if they’re original. You might not want to change it if this is the case, but sometimes retro steering wheels can be too big. This makes changing gear difficult, especially when there’s little room in the car. So, switching out the original wheel for a new smaller design can be quite beneficial, especially if you pick one that manages to retain the car’s classic look.

Swapping Those Seats

Changing the seats in your classic car is another controversial option, however having seats that are comfortable is essential to make your car more usable on a daily basis. If you require a little more support and comfort from your car seats, then swapping them out will do you a lot of good. You could always opt for some period style bucket seats, as long as your budget allows for them.

Getting A New Sound System

Unfortunately classic cars don’t always have the best stereos, so installing a new one can be a great modification idea. It might be the case that you simply prefer listening to the engine, but there are many options in regards to getting a new sound system that won’t compromise the retro look of your classic car.

If you have recently purchased a classic car, you are most probably in need of classic car insurance that gives your car the care it deserves. At Carole Nash, we know that classic cars are different to other cars on the road and will help you get a policy that’s right for you.
