Taking a Look At The Powerful Range Rover SVR

range-rover-SVR.jpg

It was in 1970 that Range Rover launched a brand new take on the classic four by four vehicle, based on the foundations set by the mighty Land Rover.  The first ever production Range Rover was exhibited at the Musée du Louvre in Paris that same year, and was heralded as an instant classic of exceptional design.

There have been four generations of the luxury four by four throughout its forty eight year life span. However, there has been one model in particular that has stood out amongst the rest for its powerful performance capabilities; the Ranger Rover SVR.

The stylish SVR has a big 5.0 litre supercharged V8 engine, which allows it to crank out a massive 575 bhp. This allows the SVR to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds, an astonishing feat for a vehicle that weighs in excess of 2.2 tonnes.

Not only is the SVR pretty quick for a large vehicle, it also comes with a whole heap of extras, which all help it stand out from the other luxury four by fours. It’s wheels are very lightweight, it has a sports active exhaust system, which actually enhances the impressive noise from the V8 engine, and crucially the suspension has been specifically retuned to handle all the extra power. The supercharged suv’s enhancements and extras all serve to make it that little bit more special.

It’s certainly an impressive luxury vehicle, designed to be the fastest Land Rover yet, but whether or not it will turn into a future classic like other luxury Range Rovers is yet to be seen. The very first Range Rover was so groundbreaking for its time, that it became an instant classic as soon as it launched. However, the SVR now faces much tougher competition, and the chances of spotting one out on the roads is far higher than coming across a first generation Range Rover Classic.

So, the SVR hasn’t quite got the rarity value of the older Land Rover yet of course, however it’s still a landmark model for the British automotive company, and arguably represents the pinnacle of suv performance. Thanks to its high performance specs, there’s little doubt that it will become a highly sought after classic in the years to come.
