According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the most popular car colour in Britain at the moment is grey. Silver used to be the go-to colour every year between 2000 and 2008. However, these days the colour doesn’t even get into the top five most popular picks.
So do you prefer the colour grey? Are you a fan of the metallic look that a silver finish can replicate? Or do you prefer another colour entirely?
Well, apparently the colour you choose for your car can say more about you than you may realise…
Most Popular Colours
Since the turn of the millennium, black, white and grey have continued to be amongst the most popular colour choices.
If you’re the kind of driver that prefers the colour black, then it could indicate that you prefer to blend in with the other drivers, almost like having a security blanket. Choosing black is safer than going with a more bold colour choice, and the majority of people will obviously want to feel more safe and secure.
When white is your preferred choice it could indicate that you prefer to be more neutral, is it too represents a safer choice on the colour palette. Also, choosing grey, which represents austerity, hibernation and bad weather; could indicate that you’re a person who likes to save money.
Least Popular colours
There are a number of car colours that appear to be less aesthetically pleasing to drivers. Maroon in particular, was the least popular option, with just 471 cars registered with the colour last year (according to the SMMT). The colour though is actually linked to being a very passionate, creative and confident.
Coming it at the second least popular colour choice was cream, which has similar connotations to white. Pink was the third most unpopular colour, with turquoise and gold following after.
Other Car Colours
The colour blue denotes a calming and serene nature, and could indicate that you’re generally a more happy, and logical driver. Red is a far more assertive colour choice for your car; representing strength and power, it’s generally equated with having a zest for life and a much more outgoing personality.
Orange like red is also another bold colour choice for any car owner, and generally means that you’re more outgoing as a person. It’s a colour that can represent creativity, and spontaneity. There’s also yellow of course, which isn’t a hugely popular colour choice, but if you prefer this car colour it could indicate that you’re a more optimistic person. There’s also an argument that yellow cars are a safer choice, as they are the most visible to other drivers.
Contrary to some common rumours, your car insurance premiums are not affected by the colour of your car. Many people tend to believe that the darker car colours lead to higher premiums, because they aren’t as easy to spot as lighter shades. Although this may be true, UK car insurers do not take colour into account when setting premiums. Keep in mind though that if you do plan on changing the colour of your car, you must inform the DVLA.
