5 Excellent European Motorbike Journeys

The open road is a familiar sensation for all riders. It’s a great way to clear your head, especially if you’re going on a trip. Europe is full of places that are perfect for a solo trip. From winding mountain paths, to roads that seem to stretch on forever, here are five of the greatest European motorbike journeys to take.

Take a ride up the Troll’s Ladder in Norway

Trollstigen, also known as the Troll’s Ladder, is one of the premier riding locations in Norway. Found in Rauma, the road twists up a mountain. Although the road’s not very long, you’ll be able to ride through the heart of Norwegian nature. There’s beautiful waterfalls, stunning peaks and lofty slopes to see.

Experience the Amalfi Coast in Italy

The Amalfi Coast features miles of breathtaking beaches and ocean views. You’ll be spoilt for choice on what to see, as there are plenty of picturesque towns to stop off in. There’s sun-drenched Positano, with its cascade of terracotta and pastel buildings. Towards the mountains you’ll find Ravello, where you’ll be able to take in the whole coastline. Further down the cliff is the quaint resort of Sorrento that welcomes tourists all year round.

Travel around the Golden Ring in Russia

If you’re interested in seeing the fairytale side of Russia, then you’ll want to ride along the Golden Ring that stretches from Vladimir to Moscow. Vladimir is filled with medieval history and once you’ve explored it, you can move on to Suzdal. A merchant town, Suzdal, features golden-domed churches and wooden cottages.

On the way to Moscow you’ll come across various villages and towns, with one of the most impressive being Plyos. Plyos is a village that’s been immortalised in many paintings. It’s home to the Levitan House Museum, which features famous art from painters like Alexey Stepanov and Sofia Kuvshinnikova.

Journey up the Klausen Pass in Switzerland

The Klausen Pass is found in Switzerland and it can be described as an idyllic mountain road. There are many twists and turns that will test your ability as a rider. While you’re riding you’ll be able to take in the beautiful scenery, which includes cosy lakeside towns, waterfalls and miles of rugged forest.

Take a sunny sojourn along the Estoril Coast in Portugal

Found west of Lisbon, the Estoril Coast is made up of seafront promenades and golden beaches. If you’re looking for a place to get away from it all, this 30km stretch of road will give you plenty of time with your bike. When you’ve seen enough ocean, you can stop off at any of the lively resort towns, such as Estoril and Cascais.
