Bikers Plan 1,500-Mile Ride To Support 3 Charities

Two bike enthusiasts are gearing up for a 1,500 mile, four-day ride from John O’Groats to Lands End in an effort to support the Teenager Cancer Trust, special state school Heronsbridge School Bridgend and 1st Battalion, The Rifles (1 RIFLES), an infantry battalion.

Paul Burley and Jamie Methuen from Chepstow will start their journey from John O’Groats and will finish their trip in Lands End as part of Operation 4 Corners, The Free Press reports.

The two bikers said that they are aiming to raise £6,000 and will split the funds between the three organisations.

Burley commented that the aim is not only to raise funds for the charities they chose, but also to raise awareness. Burley and Methuen even considered participating in the Isle of Man TT event, but they couldn’t find accommodation. For this reason, the bikers approached the Lands End-John O’Groats Association to find how they could make the trip more challenging and they decided to take the ride to the four extreme points of the country.

Methuen will be riding a 2008 Honda VFR800, while Burley will use his 1985 Kawazaki GPZ 900 for the trip.

The friends will start from John O’Groats on 9 June before heading to Duncansby Head and then west to Ardnamurchan in Scotland. On the second day the duo will ride to Lowestoft Ness in the east of England and on the third day to Ace Cafe in London and on to Brighton and the south coast. The final phase of the trip will see the bikers heading to The Lizard and then to Land’s End.

So far Burley and Meuthen have managed to raise £286, but they are looking for sponsors to fund their fuel, tyres and accommodation expenses.
