British Superbike Championship: Round 8

A distinct lack of summer weather descended over Cadwell Park last weekend for the biggest event in the British Superbike calendar. Thousands head down to the Mini-Nurburgring every August, hoping to catch some airborne sights as racers roar over the course’s legendary ‘Mountain’ section.

The battle for the title remains a close rivalry between Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes and reigning champ Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne for PBM Kawasaki, but Cadwell was full of surprises. Brookes dominated the circuit, fighting his way to a 1.8 second lead in race one and strolling across the line, ahead by five seconds, in race two. But Shakey was nowhere to be seen, slipping to sixth and fourth respectively – a major knock to his title efforts.

Peter Hickman and Billy McConnell rounded out the podium in race one, with Hickman and Tommy Bridewell earning the spots for race two. The unexpected finish doesn’t see too much of a shakeup for the rankings, but with three races left to go there’s still everything to play for.

The first weekend in September will see the return to Oulton Park. Bridewell and Easton earned the golds back in May – will it be a different story this time?
