Coinciding with the timely return of the great British sunshine, Shane Byrne returned to winning ways this weekend with a shimmering victory over championship leader Josh Brookes at a sun-soaked Oulton Park. After a daring move on the penultimate lap of the final race, Byrne held on for what could be a crucial victory in one the closest title challenges in recent British Superbike history.
With his place now firmly booked in Assen’s Showdown scheduled for just under two weeks’ time, Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne will be joined by Speedfit Kawasaki rider James Ellison, Tyco’s Tommy Bridewell and Michael Laverty, Honda’s Dan Linfoot and Championship leader, Josh Brookes. Stuart Easton is the unlucky rider who misses out after sitting in seventh despite some excellent races on his PBM Kawasaki throughout the year.
Assen will be first to host to this year’s Showdown with the riders set to battle it out around Silverstone’s infamous circuit before the 2015 Champion is crowned at Brands Hatch on October 18th.
Can Shakey maintain his momentum as Brookes’ lead shortens to only two points? The final three races of the calendar present a mouth-watering finale to what has already been an unbelievable 2015 season – and with everything still left to race for, there’s no sign of the excitement letting up anytime soon.
