Kevin Schwantz, the 1993 500cc World Champion and Grand Prix legend, will be the headliner at the 2014 Donington Classic Festival, which will run from 8 to 10 August, the circuit’s website confirmed.
Schwantz, who is a long-time Suzuki racer, has won a number of races on Donington Park’s circuit. He’s now looking forward his comeback to the track, which for him is a place of many victories, including the Grand Prix and Transatlantic Match races.
As part of his participation in the festival, Schwantz will hold autograph sessions and will also be the host of a special “Evening with Kevin Schwantz,” which will take place in the Donington Grand Prix Collection. More details on the events are expected to be released very soon.
For Donington Park, it is a great pleasure to welcome Schwantz to the Classic Motorcycle Festival, circuit manager Bob Adams said. It has been 20 years since his last victory at Donington Park, and with the assistance of Steve Wheatman, Team Classic Suzuki owner, Kevin will be reuinted with his 1994 XR84 Lucky Strike Suzuki – no. 1 plate, he added.
Kevin was a leading racer in the golden years of 500cc Grand Prix racing, competing with other big names in the motorsport, including Wayne Rainey, Mick Doohan and Eddie Lawson on his way to the 25 500cc win. Schwantz has more victories than four-times world champions Geoffrey Duke and John Surtees, and triple world champions Wayne Rainey and Kenny Roberts.
