Yvette Love from Newcastle will try to overcome her fear of motorcycles by jumping on a 200 mph superbike in an effort to raise £10,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The brave woman is determined to face her bike phobia by riding round the race circuit at Oulton Park, in Cheshire, before the start of the British Superbike Championship in August.

The 52-year-old was inspired by her husband who has been battling cancer for five years. Love said that after her husband was diagnosed he had no choice but to face his fears and get on with it. She added that her greatest fear is to ride a motorcycle, so she decided to go on one in a bid to raise funds and face her biggest phobia.

Love said that she is terrified of bikes, because she feels they can be unsafe and can go very fast. She admits that this is a really big thing for her, the Sentinel reported.

Over the past two years Love has been raising funds for Cancer Research UK and she recently hosted a raffle at Mr Maliks Restaurant, in Newcastle, to spread the word about her efforts and start the new initiative. During the event volunteers from Cancer Research UK spoke to the public and collected donations, and for Love this was the beginning of her challenge.

Ada Haywood, who has been raising funds for Cancer Research UK for 20 years, plans to help her friend reach her target. Haywood has managed to raise over £500,000 for the charity over the years.
