Looking ahead to the final round of the British Superbike Championship – an event dubbed ‘TheFinal Showdown‘ on the competition’s main site – all that stands between Leon Haslam and his first-ever championship win is 39 year old Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne.
As things stand, the Ducati man sits 17 points ahead of Haslam Junior, meaning the JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider has it all to do if he’s going to stop crowd favourite Byrne from claiming his fourth BSB championship title.
Still looking for his first ever senior championship, Haslam will be keen to avoid a repeat of the 2010 World Superbike Championship – when the then 27 year old race ace was beaten by thecharismatic Italian, Max Biaggi.
Interested in seeing how Leon fares against Shakey this weekend? Be sure to head over to Brands Hatch and catch a glimpse of what’s surely going to be one of the most exciting races in thecompetition’s history.
Elsewhere, Jonathan Rea could make it two championship titles on the bounce this weekend. If things go his way when he and the rest of the SBK elite battle it out in Jerez, Rea could be the first rider since Carl Fogarty to take two titles in consecutive seasons.
Dubbed “the best rider ever from Northern Ireland” earlier this week by former GP racer and fellow countryman Jeremy McWilliams, Rea has to better Tom Sykes’ point tally by just two in order to claim what will surely be a celebrated victory.
