The Benefits Of Motorbike Modifications

At Inside Bikes, we love interacting with our audience, which is why we want to hear about your riding experiences and provide a platform to share your passion for motorbikes. On Facebook, we asked you ‘have you ever modified your motorcycle’ and many of you said that you had. At the time of writing this, 144 people said they had modified their motorbike and two said they hadn’t. This got us thinking about the benefits of modifications. Do they make a difference when you’re out riding?

There’s certainly a passion for modifications in the classic vehicle community, as seen from Bob Singfield’s comment.

Bob Singfields quote

Modifications can be broken down into three categories:

  • Performance
  • Safety
  • Styling

So, what are the benefits?

Performance

Performance modifications can improve the power and speed of your bike. Imagine if you’re on a racing track and you want to be able to beat a mate’s personal record. Modifying your vehicle could help you move faster and increase your own sense of satisfaction.

Safety

You’ll want to make sure your motorbike is safe if you’re planning to enhance its performance. Safety modifications can improve stability and balance. This could come in handy if you’re riding through the countryside and you have to navigate over uneven terrain. Safety modifications decrease the risk of falling off your motorbike.

Styling

Style modifications can improve the appearance of your motorbike. This could be as simple as changing the material of your seat, or altering the handles. If you’re feeling nostalgic, you could modify your vehicle to appear similar to a film motorbike. Style modifications also work well if you’re going to a classic motorbike show and want to show off your creativity.

Roy Fraser brought up an interesting point about modifications being better for older models.

Roy Fraser quote

By modifying an older motorbike, such as an early version of a Triumph Bonneville, you could make it look brand new. You could also increase the lifespan of an older model, especially where performance and safety are concerned.

Modifications allow you to add a personal touch to your motorbike. What kind of modifications have you used?
