Carole Nash puts ‘class’ in Classic at the Manx GP

Manx_2022_Dave_Kneen

The Carole Nash Classic Senior Manx Grand Prix race is run over four laps of the iconic the Isle of Man TT Mountain Circuit, and features truly classic machinery consisting of 500cc four-strokes manufactured before 1973, as well as two-strokes manufactured before 1968. The rules allow a wide variety of bikes to take part, and the engine configurations of past races have included singles, twins, triples, and four-cylinder bikes, as well as a rotary. As well as the classic racing motorcycles, the event also features a number of period correct replica machines which are painstaking recreations of the originals.

Although the Manx is often said to be the amateur riders’ alternative, and a learning experience for the Isle of Man TT races, the list of Classic TT winners consists of household names in road racing.

The Classic Senior class has been dominated in recent years by Paton, with Ryan Farquhar, Olie Linsdell, Ian Lougher, Josh Brookes and John McGuinness all crossing the line first on the stunning twin-cylinder Italian machines.

Last year, though, it was Lee Johnston on a Yamaha by Davies Motorsport, who took the first place, with Stefano Bonetti (Peter Beugger Racing Paton) second, and Mike Browne (Peter Grantham Lodge Norton) third.

This year the Manx GP celebrates its 100th anniversary, and as part of those celebrations the 2023 Carole Nash Classic Senior Manx Grand Prix Race is scheduled for Saturday 26 August at 12:45pm.
