With Honda’s new Transalp and the 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 800DE set to hit showrooms in the coming weeks, the middleweight adventure bike sector is absolutely booming right now.
And while the focus is rightly on these all-new platforms from Honda and Suzuki, Yamaha haven’t taken things lying down. Their Ténéré 700 has been the benchmark in the class since its introduction in 2019 and, for 2023, it gains some new spec in a bid to remain at the top of this very competitive class.
Ténéré 700 has been a mighty machine, offering up a decent level of road and off-road abilities at a price point that undercuts a majority of its rivals, although if you were to draw criticism then it would be that it has lacked on the tech front, which Yamaha have addressed for 2023.
This means that although the core of the machine is the same, gone is the old-school, analogue style dash set-up in favour of a smart new 5” TFT set-up, which offers three different themes alongside the ability to connect to your smartphone. They’ve then given it a USB charging socket, alongside some new indicators, with a wiring set-up that allows for an optional quickshifter to simply be plugged in without the need for messing about with the wiring.
Alongside this, the ABS system has been updated, offering three modes to cover both front and rear brakes, along with the option to have just front on, or no ABS at all. The brake lever has also been redesigned.
Although there’s no mention yet on price and availability, expect to see them in dealers next year with the price slightly higher than the current figure of £9,900 for the standard model.
