Estate cars are among the most practical vehicles in the world because they feature a lot of interior space. They can be useful for transporting luggage or tools. But they can be stylish as well and there have been plenty of magnificent estate cars produced over the years. 1970 Peugeot 504
The Peugeot 504 can be considered one of the most accommodating estate cars of all time. It had a 1971 cc engine and came with a high roof and solid rear axle with four coil springs. The minimalist appearance made it look smooth and clean. Badged as the 504 Family Estate in the UK, it could fit up to five to seven people, making it a very functionable motor.
1975 Citroen CX
The saloon version of the Citroen CX had been popular with the public, so it was only a matter of time before an estate version was released. The estate CX had a space-saving front-wheel drive and self-levelling Hydropneumatic suspension. The large body meant it could carry a lot of luggage, which made it one of the most practical family cars available in Europe. The CX’s usefulness made it very popular and it was produced up until 1991.
1962 Morris Minor Traveller
The Morris Minor Traveller is one of the most distinctive estate cars, thanks to its framed exterior. Its ash-framed rear end made it a popular estate vehicle, despite the risk of wood rot. It came with a 1098 cc engine that was done in the style of a pre-war shooting brake vehicle. The ‘woodie’ remains one of Britain’s best loved estate cars.

1973 Vauxhall Victor FE
The Estate version of the Vauxhall Victor freshened up the company’s big car line. It featured a curvy exterior and spacious interior. Compared to previous models it had a higher cabin and extra leg room for the back seats. It came with a four-speed gearbox and buyers had a choice of a 1.8-litre or 2.3-litre version.
1974 Volvo 240
Based on the successful 145, the Volvo 240 estate featured a modified body that came with heavy impact bumpers. The long bonnet gave the Volvo 240 a regal appearance that made it look similar to a luxury hatchback. Today, it’s one of the most popular estate cars among enthusiasts
