There are many famous vehicles that have appeared in pop culture, ranging from the Aston Martin DB5 to the Classic Mini. One of the best known cars in pop culture is KITT, which appeared in the 1980s TV show Knight Rider. Viewers will remember David Hasselhoff’s character riding around in KITT and the two of them communicating with each other for some memorable situations.
Fans of the show will be pleased to know that the only surviving original KITT car is going to be auctioned off on the 19th September by Volvo. The KITT car was based on a Pontiac Firebird, with three being modified for the show. One vehicle was used for driving, the second for transforming and the third as a backup. The third car ended up in the Volvo Auto Museum in Illinois until it was chosen to be auctioned.
The auction vehicle has the same chassis as the car that did the driving scenes. It features ‘Super Pursuit Mode’ body modifications and functional aero brakes that fold out on the rear. This kind of feature has been associated with the Bugatti Veyron.
KITT also comes with a pulsing red light at the front, an indication of when it talked. Actor William Daniels lent his voice for the show, but the auction car is lacking in artificial intelligence. Further modifications can be added to the car to enhance its appearance.
The interior is exactly how it was on the show, with the famous KITT dashboard and steering wheel being featured prominently. The seats have a comfortable, sleek appearance that match the overall look of the car.
The KITT Pontiac Firebird is being sold by Autoclassics.com and is expected to fetch up to £31,000. For more information you can check out the details on the Auto Classics website.
