Maseratis are among the rarest classic vehicles in the world, so when one appears at an auction you know there’s going to be a buzz. But what happens when an entire collection goes up for auction? You get the RM Sotheby London auction, which features six Maseratis that are up for grabs. The auction is going to take place in September, with each car having a unique story. A couple are even predicted to fetch over £1 million.
The cars include a 1972 Maserati Ghibli SS 4.9 Spyder, 1970 4.9 Coupe, 1971 Coupe, 1963 5000 GT, 1974 Quattroporte and 1972 Bora. We’ve featured some information on the most interesting models.
1963 Maserati 5000 GT
The 5000 GT is one of the headliners of the auction, estimated to sell for between £1 and 1.2 million. It was first sold to the President of Scuderia Brescia Corse Racing team, Alfredo Belponer. The car passed into the hands of Italian singer Antonio Ciacci and was then owned by Joe Walsh in the 1970s. The 5000 GT was restored in 1988 and displayed in private collections.
1971 Maserati Ghibli SS 4.9 Coupe
This Coupe is one of the rarest cars in the world. It features a Verde Gemma green paint job, right-hand drive and an engine that outputs 330 bhp. It’s thought the car will go for £125,000 to £175,000.
1972 Maserati Ghibli SS 4.9 Spyder
Originally shipped to Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, this Spyder is one of only four to exist. It was recently restored to pristine condition and is predicted to sell for £1.2 million. With the sleek body and elegant appearance, it’s not hard to see why the car is being sold for such a high price.
1974 Maserati Quattroporte
The Quattroporte was built for Prince Shah Karim Al Hussaini and sent to Italian coachbuilder Frua for extra tuning. It received customised bodywork that made it unique among other cars and it estimated to fetch a price of £150,000 to £200,000.
