Small cars have some of the quirkiest designs in the industry and two of the smallest are going to be auctioned off on September 5th. The Zele 1000 and ACOMA Mini Comtesse are going on sale at the RM Sotheby auction in London.
The Zele 1000, a tiny electric vehicle, was built by Zagato in 1974. The company manufactured a total of 500. The Zele’s creation was interesting because Zagato had a reputation for designing elegant cars that had been praised for their beauty and performance.
In contrast, the Zele has a boxy, unitarian shape. It’s powered by four rechargeable 12-volt carriers that can be plugged into a mains socket with an adapter. The Zele is capable of reaching 25 mph, with a top distance of about 50 miles.
The current owner has said that he uses the car on a regular basis, with the Zele being as operational as it was when first designed. The owner gave it a full restoration. The car is being sold without a reserve, though it’s estimated to go for £5000 to £10,000.
The 1975 Mini Comtesse shares a similar appearance to the Peel P50. The P50 rose to popularity when it featured on Top Gear and one version sold at auction for £90,000 in 2017. Built in France, the three-wheeled Comtesse comes with a 49 cc engine, propelling it to 20 mph. Even though the car is meant for a single person, it’s fitted with two doors. One is a regular door, while the other is a gullwing that’s located on the left.
At 1.7 metres, the Comtesse is certainly one of the smallest French vehicles to ever be designed. It’s estimated to sell for £5000 to £10,000 like the Zele. Both cars have a uniqueness that is sure to attract classic car enthusiasts from all over.
